Getting Started

Take your first steps within the third sector

If you are looking for your first role in the sector, it’s important to be realistic in your expectations –and bear in mind roles for which you have transferable skills. It goes without saying that you will need to demonstrate a real empathy and passion for the cause - and be prepared to make a long term career commitment – it’s not a change to be made lightly.

Obviously, the third sector has to account for every penny – particularly as it relies so heavily on donations and so salaries will not be at the same levels as the private sector.

However, opportunities for progression are good – and often come with healthy increases in remuneration.
